The technology incorporates CNP-PLUS, a biological activator. The enhanced bioremediation technology can treat soils, sludges, and dredged sediments contaminants with organic ranging from diesel fuel to PCBs. The CNP-PLUS is a speciality blended biological Activator that stimulates indigenous microbial growth when applied to soils containing organic contaminants. The stimulating characteristics of CNP-PLUS cause extensive proliferation in the indigenous microbial population to the point where the organic contaminants become their basic food source and biodegradation takes place. The treatment process is capable of converting from an anaerobic state to an aerobic state as the higher carbon chain substances are metabolized under the process control in a leach-proof envelope or Bio-Cell. The shorter carbon chain substances will then be processed in an aerobic environment. The treatment process may be applied ex situ. The ex-situ process is greatly accelerated by the optimization of all the factors relevant to microbial proliferation. Page No. 2 of 38 VISITT 4.0 01/26/96 (s3B Vendor Name: ETUS, INC. Technology Type: BIOREMEDIATION - SOLID PHASE (s0B TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS The enhanced bioremediation technology process can treat soils, sludges, and dredged sediments contaminated with organic ranging from diesel fuel to PCBs at approximately 30 percent of the cost of thermal destruction or incineration. The use of the enhanced bioremediation technology for organic hydrocarbon contaminants will achieve up to 90 percent reduction in concentration levels within 60 to 180 days. Page No. 3 of 38 VISITT 4.0 01/26/96 (s3B Vendor Name: ETUS, INC. Technology Type: BIOREMEDIATION - SOLID PHASE (s0B TECHNOLOGY LIMITATIONS The enhanced bioremediation technology process is not limited to soils free of toxic metals. These soils would require simple pretreatment conditioning which would be implemented with the same process equipment. The main limiting factor of the process is sustained ambient air temperature below 50 degrees Fahrenheit but this can be overcome with the use of mechanical devices. Page No. 4 of 38 VISITT 4.0 01/26/96 (s3B Vendor Name: ETUS, INC. Technology Type: BIOREMEDIATION - SOLID PHASE (s0B OTHER COMMENTS ON TECHNOLOGY The enhanced bioremediation technology process has been successfully demonstrated at bench, pilot, and full scale. Full-scale process installations have been used to reduce organic hydrocarbon contaminant loadings in soils to within the established parameters of the State and local regulatory agencies. Pilot-scale demonstrations have been performed at sites to treat soils and sludges contaminated with diesel fuels, TPHs, and PCBs. Bench-scale treatability studies have been performed on the above mentioned contaminants. Other studies are also on-going to see whether the process has any limitations on soils containing other petrochemical compounds or peticides in conjunction with heavy metals. The samples are accompanied by a complete analysis stating the target contaminants and the specific regulatory limits that must be obtained. A bioremediation simulator is used to conduct the laboratory work. The soils are exposed to the optimum conditions for biodegradation to take palce, pH, moisture, temperature, nutrients. Next, we try to reproduce the same results taking into consideration all the site- specific parameters, seasonal climate changes, rainfall, and temperatures. This process allows for planning the optimum time frame for bioremediation of a specific site to take place.
