Summary Report of Limited Gas Vent PUF Sampling
Neal' Landfill August 22, 2002
This report summarizes the results of four days of PUF sampling around three of the gas
vents on the cap at Neal's Landfill. These three vents were chosen based on the results of
screening work done in late 2001 and early 2002. The work described was performed in
accordance with the Neal's Landfill Gas Vent Sampling Test Plan prepared by Viacom and
distributed for review and comment on May 21, 2002.
PUF Sampling was performed by PSARA Technologies, Inc. (PSARA) from Monday July
29 through Friday August 2, 2002. A total of four PUF monitors were operated continuously
during this period using portable gasoline powered generators. PUF stations were located
proximate to gas vent Nos. 1, 4 and 9 along the western side of the cap, as shown in the
attached schematic. 24-hour samples were collected approximately at noon each day,
Tuesday through Friday, for a total of 16 samples.
The samples collected each day were packed for shipment and returned to PSARA's
Bloomington office where they were stored at room temperature pending shipment to the
laboratory. On Friday the last four samples were collected and the entire sample batch along
with two blanks were transported to DataChem Laboratories located at 4388 Glendale-
Milford Road in Cincinnati, Ohio.
All samples were analyzed for PCBs by Method TO-4. The attached table summarizes
results, which ranged from 13.4 ng/m3 to 30.1 ng/m3, with an overall average of 20.3 ng/m3.
