THE UNITED STATES ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) announces its intent to delete the Neal's Dump Superfund Site, Spencer, Owen County, Indiana from the National Priorities List (NPL), Appendix B of the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Contingency Plan and requestcomments on the deletion. The EPA has completed cleanup activities at the site and is proposing that it be taken off the NPL. This deletion does not preclude future actions under Superfund.

The U.S. EPA, in conjunction with the State of Indiana, has determined that all appropriate response measures have been implemented and no further cleanup is required. The U.S.. EPA has determined that the remedy is protective of public health, welfare and the environment.

The public is invited to comment on the proposed decision to delete this site from the NPL Thepublic comment period will begin on August 26, 1999 and extend for 30 days. Written comments must be postmarked no later than September 24,1999 and should be addressed:
