Lemon Lane - June 1999

Lemon Land Dump, source of the PCB pollution and ICC and Quarry SpringsThe Lemon Lane Landfill site covers about 10 acres on the western edge of the City of Bloomington The site is bordered on the west and the north by privately owned undeveloped land and residences, on the east by Lemon Lane and residences, and on the south by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad right-of-way. From 1958 to 1964, CBS Corporation disposed of electrical capacitators containing PCBs at the site. Studies indicate that groundwater containing PCBs is being released at the Illinois Central Spring (ICS), which is approximately 0.5 mile from the landfill. A 1,000-gallon-per-minute spring water treatment plant is being constructed near the site.
